Sternbild Pictor (Malerstaffelei)

Eigenschaften
Pictor ist ein weiteres unscheinbares Sternbild und steht im Schatten des hellen Sterns Canopus auf der östlichen Seite und der Großen Magellanschen Wolke im Süden. Das Zentrum des 247 Quadratgrad großen Sternbildes kulminiert jeweils etwa am 15. Dezember um Mitternacht. [9, 15]
Geschichte
Das Sternbild wurde im Jahre 1752 vom französischen Astronomen Abbé Nicolas Louis de Lacaille unter der ursprünglichen Bezeichnung Equuleus Pictoris (Staffelei des Malers) eingeführt. Der Name wurde jedoch 1877 von Gould gekürzt. [7, 10]
