The galaxy NGC 2613 was discovered by William Herschel on 20 November 1784. He logged it as II 266 with the notes: «Faint, extended, brighter in the middle, resolvable 1.5' diameter.» [463]

The galaxy NGC 2613 is located in the constellation Pyxis. On 26 January it in opposition with the Sun and is therefore highest in the sky at local midnight. Best time for observation is around December to March.
